Phonics in Nursery
Early phonics isn’t about reading, writing and recognising letters. It’s all about LISTENING.
Phonics is a multi-sensory experience
Hearing, seeing & gross motor skills are all vital in early phonics teaching.
Mirrors help children SEE the movement in their mouth as they make the sound
Letters are displayed around the nursery for children to be immersed. They need to be able to SEE the sounds they are learning.
Ribbons, pom poms, large scale mark making, letters to copy, sensory mark making and 3D letters for children to touch and handle are all used to enhance our multi-sensory approach to teaching young children to read and write.
